Siblings Bonnie and Clyde came into our care when they were over a year old. For some reason, they became unnecessary not only for circus performers, where they were born, but also for a private person, where they traveled from the circus. In circuses, animals are often treated cruelly, and these cougars have already lived their lives and do not show trust in humans. We try to make up for all the bad things, at least a little, to create sufficient space and more suitable living conditions. In this way, without dressage, they can devote themselves to free movement in their paddock.
Unfortunately, on 4/24/2019, Bonnie left us forever, as her kidneys failed. We believe that at least the few years she spent with us, she survived in peace. .
THANK YOU for the adoption contribution for Clyde:
Robovi Heijenrathovi.
It has a diverse coloring, but most often it is a uniform brown-yellow, red or brown color. In the Patagonia region, it is often red- or silver-grey. The white muzzle is framed by stripes of black fur. The lower part of the body is also paler to white. Cougars vary in size depending on where they are found. The smallest pumas live in the tropics, towards the north and south there are larger individuals.
The cougar’s range is the largest of all mammals in the Western Hemisphere. They are solitary animals, but male territories often overlap with female territories. As a result, the male gets information as soon as possible about whether the female is in heat. The mating period lasts about 2 weeks, during which the male and female hunt and sleep together.
Cubs are born blind and with mottled fur that remains for up to six months. They suck their mother’s milk for about three months, but they start eating meat already at the age of six weeks. They hunt by themselves at nine months, but usually stay with their mother for up to two years. Even then, the cubs often stay together for several months.
The American cougar is also called a mountain lion or kaguar. Although the mountain lion is stronger than the roughly equally sized leopard, it is not a member of the Panthera, a genus of large felids.
The American puma is a large cat in size, but it is classified as a small feline. Unlike large beasts, it cannot roar, but it makes other diverse sounds, it can also make sounds similar to a human scream. It strictly avoids territories where jaguars live. They are excellent jumpers, they are able to jump up to 6 meters from a place, double that with a run, they use their tail as a rudder, they can jump up to a height of 3 meters on a tree.
It is not scientifically proven that the puma occurs in black.
It covers 70 km in 1 day.
Cougars have respect for wolves. They prefer to avoid an encounter with a wolf by jumping up a tree.
